Legal News: Switzerland introduces a central transparency register
As of 1 October 2026, Switzerland will introduce a central, non-public register of beneficial owners. The legal basis for the register is the Federal Act on the Transparency of Legal Entities and the Identification of Beneficial Owners (LETA) and the corresponding ordinance (LETO).
The register replaces the existing corporate-law record-keeping and reporting obligations and complements them with new obligations. Its purpose is to increase transparency regarding ownership and control structures. At the same time, Switzerland is implementing international requirements and strengthening the fight against money laundering, terrorist financing and other forms of financial crime.
